Deviation Actions
are having a contest: Road to Recovery
Here are more details about the contest:
In this contest, we want to hear your story. If you are in a place of healing and recovery after battling an illness, addiction or form of abuse, we want to hear how you made it there. In other words, I am looking for a POSITIVE conclusion, even if the majority of the story is dark or explicit (make sure to attach Mature Content filters where appropriate). We want you to be able to share the darkest parts of your journey, and how you made it back into the light. Let me emphasize: we will NOT accept deviations that don't contain some sort of positive message of hope or inspiration. If you would like to write about the journey of someone else's recovery, be it a close friend or family member, and how their journey affected you we will accept that as well, again as long as the conclusion is meant to inspire hope.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 10TH!!
Here are the rules, they must ALL be followed or your deviation will not be accepted:
Limit 1 submission per person!
Members, as well as admins, can submit art. Admins who submit art cannot take part in the judging process.
We will accept ANY form of art, however we want you to tell us your story, so we'll be looking for mostly literature pieces.
Attach a MATURE CONTENT FILTER!! This is a must if your piece contains mentions of suicide, graphic drug use or sexual abuse, self-injury, profanity, and ideologically sensitive material. While we are accepting ANY sort of content into this contest, it MUST come with a filter in the cases mentioned above, and it MUST have a positive conclusion.
MUST CONTAIN A POSITIVE MESSAGE, even if it isn't until the very end of the piece. End with something positive or hopeful!! I'm looking for the piece that has the most profound effect and really leaves the reader feeling encouraged, that they can overcome whatever battle they are going through.
NO FICTION!! We want to hear true stories about recovery, not just something you've conjured in your head. If you'd like to write about someone else's story that you've witnessed, either as a friend or family member, we will accept that as well.
Please consider entering and also please fav the new article here - fav.me/n135130 - to spead the word.

For Consideration
Greetings. As you could probably tell by the title of this journal entry, I’d like to know if you lot would be willing to fund me on the website: Patron. Now, you may be wondering: "why the hell I would ask this of you when I have so few watchers on DeviantArt?" Well, I assure you, the answer is that my situation is quite dire and I need to get out of it as soon as possible. And just what is my dire situation? Well, although it's possible that many of you may think I’m making this up, and I will not deny that some people are sick enough to do just that. The main reason my situation is so dire is due to the abuse I have been gettin
Book of the Month - Abused Boys
Title: Abused Boys: The Neglected Victims of Secual Abuse – By Mic Hunter
Overveiw: This is a long overdue and amazingly important book, by a psychologist who has extensive clinical experience treating male victims of child sexual abuse, it explodes the myth that sexual abuse of male children is rare, or that the consequences are less serious than for girls.
It is very powerfully written and laced with personal stories of both survivors and families of survivors. It is a slow read as after almost every chapter you feel the overwhelming need to take a break for a day or so to “recover” from and process what you have re
The 'reaching out' project
Take a peice of paper, place your hand on it, and draw around it.
Decorate this however you like, and below write a message. This could be a bit about what happened to you, a statement of healing and courage or even a message of support to others. Let's all reach out to one another, reach out for help, reach out to support and reach out to the future.
Book of the month - The Courage To Heal
Title - The Courage to Heal: A Guide for Women Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse – By Ellen Bass & Laura Davis
Overveiw - This book was a very in-depth look at childhood sexual abuse in women and the different types of coping, reactions, problems that come up later in life, etc. There are well laid-out details on the stages of recovery, what to expect for both the survivor and the family members, stories for the survivors to relate to, and it also identifys things to look out for and avoid which could be counterproductive to healing. There are sections aimed at the partners of abuse victims to help them to understand what’s going
